Top Ten Ways to Beat The Heat

It’s summer, and it’s getting hot out there! Not to worry, you don’t have to sequester yourself in an ice block storage facility to keep cool. There are plenty of great things to do to beat the heat that are easy on the wallet and fun for all. Here’s my top ten.

1)  Get your sprinkler on. Remember those golden days of running through the sprinkler in your childhood? There’s no age limit. A great way to do this as an adult is to have an oscillating sprinkler and set up a lawn chair near it, giving yourself as much or as little sprinkle as you like! Brave one? Don’t care what the neighbors are thinking? Run on through!

2) Have your friends and family over for an ice cream social. Ask everyone to bring a pint of a different flavor and offer varying cones, sprinkles, toppings, etc. Great, yummy way to cool off and score a gettogether!

3) Hit the beach. Nothing can be better than a day at the beach. Don’t forget your SPF!

4) Tubing. If you have a river in your area, grab a tube and float around for a few hours. Bring plenty of water to drink, and enjoy!

5) Water your garden, and yourself. If you’re gardening and giving your veggies and flowers a little sprinkle, why not wear a swimsuit and sprinkle yourself? Great way to cool down and still get your gardening on.

6) Catch a summer flick. There are some truly great movies to be seen in the summer, in nicely air conditioned theaters where you can beat the heat by literally hiding out from the sun.

7) Check out a local museum, and check one off your list that you keep saying you’ll visit but never seem to.

8 ) Hit the pool or local water park. Not a big fan of the beach? There is plenty of water to go around, and a pool or water park is just the place to cool off with friends, have a snack. A great place to bring the kids, too!

9) Cook light. Or, don’t cook at all. Keep your stove turned off and refresh yourself with some cool summer salads, fresh fruit and veggies. Save your cooking for the grill, if you must.

10) Go ice skating. Yes, ice skating. Plenty of indoor rinks are open in the summer, which offer a great and fun alternative to sweating in the sun. Lace em’ up and get out there!

Keep it cool and enjoy that summer heat!
