Toronto Trip

Just thought I’d fill you all in on our recent trip to Toronto, Ontario. It was fantastic. We stayed at the Pantages Hotel, a gorgeously modern 4-star hotel just one block from Yonge & Dundas Square (basically, the Times Square of Toronto). We had everything right outside our front door, and enjoyed fabulous shopping, dining and sightseeing. The first few days, we really just wandered around eating, drinking, shopping, people watching and getting ice creams. We caught the Jazz Fest at Nathan Phillips Square and shopped up and down Yonge Street and Queen Street, and ducked into the Eaton Centre to shop as well. Mid-week, we caught a ferry over to the Toronto Islands and enjoyed a sunny afternoon on the island just strolling around. We visited the beach with family on the island, hung out on the pier and had some drinks and a nice dinner. Here are some photos from the Islands:

Proof that I am enjoying my newfound hobby as an amateur photographer:

We headed over to the Annex neighborhood in Toronto to watch the 2008 Euro Cup final between Germany and Spain, it was a great game. The pub was packed full of Germany and Spain fans, and after Spain won the streets were full of revelers and cars with Spanish flags cruising and honking in celebration. It was really exciting! I was rooting for Germany (you know, the roots and all) but it was great to see Spain win. They really had a stellar team and played a fabulous game. The rub was that we had to miss the Toronto Pride Parade which was going on the same day and time, which would have been a blast, but alas soccer is more important being tournaments only happen ever 2 years. Sorry, my gay friends. Next time! Here are some photos of the pub and the annex neighborhood, including some great modern architecture at the Bata Shoe Museum (I know. Can you believe it? I so wanted to go in but G wasn’t into it), and the Royal Ontario Museum where a gorgeous new modern addition has been spliced right into the original classical archtecture. Amazing.

After all of our revelry in the city we headed up to Wasaga Beach for a weekend with G’s parents and brother who was in from California. They live adjacent to the beach and it’s really lovely and serene (as long as you avoid the main beaches…not my scene…). We had a great time up there, and can’t wait to get back!

There is so much more, but I don’t want this to turn into one of those annoyingly long slide show type of scenarios where I bore you with every little detail. Here’s the synopsis: we had a blast, Toronto is a fantastic city, Wasaga beach is great and vacations are fun!
