Moving is tough work. However, it’s been bugging me for awhile, this name I hastily chose for my business. LieblingArtCrafts. I don’t like it! I’ve never liked it (except for the Liebling part). The subject has been haunting me for weeks. I’m officially registered with the State of Minnesota as Liebling Designs, and think my shop name and everthing else should reflect that. I also wrote an article about naming your shop for Indiepreneur about the importance of this very issue, without taking my own advice (which was sagely pointed out to me, the unwitting hypocrite, by a good friend).
Same friend said “If you don’t do it, it will always bother you. Better to do it now, when you’re just starting out, than later.” I mulled and mulled and mulled this over some more. I went on vacation, and let it stew around in the back of my brain. I finally decided to just go for it.
Let me tell you this, I can’t wait until it’s done. Having an inventory of 70+ items in my former shop is not making this an easy task. I spent two hours moving twentysome items on Wednesday night, and another hour last night moving about ten things. It’s tedious, it’s annoying and it’s sucking up my useful time. After I am done with that, I have to go back and attempt to have the wonderful bloggers that have be so gracious as to feature me change their links and shop name (is this important? I don’t know, but I’m a meticulous person so I’d like if it could be done…). Then, I have to contact all the teams I’m in and have my shop name changed on their rosters, etc. Finally, I need a new email addy to reflect my new shop name, and need to move my mailing list over. I need to adjust this new email address to my Paypal account, my blog accounts, my everthing. Do I need a new blog address? Is that going too far? I don’t want to do that too, as I’m growing every day. Grrr…all of these seemingly little details add up to so much time!
I’m writing this partly to express my relief over finally taking the plunge, and partly as a warning to those of you that might not be one hundred percent in love with your shop name. If you’re at all unsure, DO IT. I have only been up and running since April, that’s three months, and you would be amazed at how many connections, subscriptions, and whatnot you can amass in such a short time. So DO IT. Do it now and do it fast before you have 8 hours worth of listings in your shop. Do it before you’ve registered for dozens of services and social networking sites and teams and been reviewed on great blogs. Do it before it’s so much work you almost wish you hadn’t started doing it in the first place!
I’ll be so relieved when it’s done, and you dear reader will be treated to some photos of me hanging out on my couch, half in the bag and treating myself to an entire bottle of wine to combat the state of sheer exhaustion this heinous task has put me in.
After all is said and done, I’m glad I’m doing it. It’s the perfect opportunity (slow summer, slow economy, slow everything) to get this off my mind. I’ll be even more glad when I’m finally done. Cheers!
P.S. - You can now find me at Liebling Designs (or, click on the beautiful orange box on the home page to be instantly transported to jewelry nirvana…hey…how’s THAT for a shop name? Hmmmmmm….)
